Lunch Date with the House Elf Liaison

House Elf Liaison, back from the kitchens!

Welcome Hufflepuffs, old and new! It’s a new term and the House Elves want to hear more from you! This term, instead of me just posting recipes, I’ll be asking questions about food- what you like and what you cook, what you eat and what you wish you could eat. I’d love it if you shared your recipes, ingredients, tips, anything that you want. Let’s talk about food!

Now that the term has started and we're all back in classes, the House Elves want to know:

What is your go-to lunch? A sandwich? A salad? A bento box? Tell us all about it!

  1. Whatever they have in the dining hall, or PB&J and milk :)

  2. I usually have last nights dinner. If not the kids have eaten it all, :-)

  3. If I'm at home then left overs or something fast (Ramen, soup, etc). If I'm at work then pretty much anything, but I do enjoy eggs.

  4. Sandwich with sweet chilli chicken, philidelphia, tomato salsa and falafel - yum!

  5. this is frimptes, & i Loooove sandwiches! given the choice, i'll pretty much always pick sandwiches to eat - whenever friends are milling about after church asking eachother where to enjoy lunch, my answer is Always "sandwiches!" (its to the point where if i'm chatting with my sister, telling her about my day & i say we had sandwiches for lunch, she says, "when do you Not have sandwiches!")
runner up - breakfast tacos. mmmmMmmmGood!! in fact, i usually have breakfast tacos for dinner (:
that being said, i'm also a huge fan of annathered.com & her bento factory! if i could build fantastic creations such as hers (which really means, if i could learn to prepare nutritious & delicious foods daily) i'd be Set.

and yarnvista, i'm super sad to say, that when we lived in coronado, i was never satisfied with sanDiego's sandwich offerings. made a lot at home, and sometimes on saturdays we'd go to NAS coronado for commissary sandwiches.
the best sandwich, the one i crave on a regular basis, is the california club from thundercloud subs in austin, tx. for me, it doesn't get better than that.
(see? i have a Lot to say about lunch!...And sandwiches!)

  7. Texas toast (toasted), turkey breast, cream cheese (just a little), alfalfa sprouts, tomatoes and cucumbers. That's my favorite sandwich. In the winter I'll add a hint of horseradish to spice things up a bit.

  8. Lately it's sandwiches or leftovers. I wish it was a bento box, though!!

  9. I'm loving the sandwich descriptions! My favorite sandwich is from a deli sorta nearby- it's a Rueben, but instead of rye I get it on sourdough and OMB it is so good! I dream about it. The sour krout and the sourdough and the dressing, yum!

But usually during the week at work I have a Lean Pocket and an orange for lunch. Not the best lunch in the world, but it's quick and easy and cheap.

  10. My go-to lunch is this awesome Chicken salad they have at Kroger. It's made with mayo, but it has bits of rotisserie chicken, grapes cut in half, celery, and a touch of relish. When I'm not feeling like that, I have salad from their salad bar.

  11. At the moment, it's soup- I make up a batch early in the week, have some for dinner one night, and take it for lunch the rest of the week. Last week, it was (imho) fabulous broccoli soup, this week it's slightly less fabulous spinach and nutmeg.

But this may all change when I start my new job in 2 weeks' time, and start working on one of the main streets in Wellington, rather than the middle of nowhere. I'm certainly going to try to be good, on the other hand one of the best cafes in Wellington will be just up the road from me...

  12. PB&J, leftovers from dinner if DH hasn't snagged them, or cereal.
